Hello All…
We had a beautiful weekend here in the Midwest…
The three warm days allowed me to get started on this
years summer cruiser…
About a month ago I picked up an old BF Goodrich
built Schwinn from a Spokesman club member…

viewtopic.php?f=16&t=13413

Thursday I spent about three hours removing the bend
from the fork legs…
WOW…
What a project…
Normally I would have just found another fork…
But…
This was an actual truss rod fork…
One truss rod was missing…
So… I made a pair from 3/8 brake tubing…
I also located some Schwinn head tube cups and bearings from my collection…

Friday was beautiful but I didn’t get home till dark…

Saturday I made her a rider…
I added a wheel set…
Back is a Sachs drum brake with a Suntour 6 speed freewheel laced to a Arya rim…
And the front is an ACS hub laced to a Sun rim…
A metal hand brake from an old 60’s Huffy on the left
and a Suntour thumb shifter on the right…
The late 60’s early 70’s Western Flyer hand grips
came from a bike I was given on Saturday…
I adapted a Persons seat pan to use with the old Troxel springs…
Rummaged through my parts for a 3/32 Schwinn cloverleaf chainwheel
with matching crank and bearings…
And lastly add the Shimano Eagle derailler and a new chain…

I’m not sure what her future holds just yet…
The vintage Cyclepro gumwall tires might be replaced
with my set of Maxxis Hookworms…
I would like a triple chainwheel up front…
But want to keep the chainguard…
Oh… I don’t know…
It’s too early in the season…

Re: BF Goodrich

Im Diggin' It!

Any tips on how to pinch the tubing on your truss bars at the axle mount to make it come out nice like yours?

Re: BF Goodrich

Thanks guys for the comments...
MagicRat I've got some left over tubing...
So... Give me a few days(need warmer weather)
and I'll show you how I did it...

Last couple of days it’s …
While it was cold…
I played with some inkjet decal photo paper…
Needed a chain guard decal…
I took a photo of BicycleRick’s vintage bicycle decal on his bike…
Then spent 4 hours with MS paint cleaning it up to print…
Turned out I little light in color…
But it will do for now…
Sprayed it with the decal sealer…
Let it dry…
Cut it out…
And put it in some water…
Waited the five seconds…
Then slipped it on the chainguard…

Bet it’s been 20 years since I worked with a water slide decal…
It Felt Good…
We'll have to see if the ink fades on the water slide…
Lastly…
Just a couple more photos…

I just found out that mineral turpentine and a stiff brush removes the logo/writing off Maxxis Hookworms. I think it looks better on an older bike. Just thought I'd share this info :D .
