It started off as a keyboard typing error . . .
My Dad while ordering a cHeaPo MTB off a website hit a wrong key . . . killing his browser midway through the on-line order process... and then going back to the website and ordering again . . . .
He then ended up with TWO of these being delivered to his house because of his own stupid MiSTaKe
When he offered the second un-used / un-built one to me I gladly accepted the FREE gift
First job was to de-sticker it
Then get my vinyl cutter out and my brain working
and create my own new black on black cut vinyl on frame graffix theme
As I had removed all the original reflectors I also used some reflective red vinyl I have on the rims
and a little bit of reflective red vinyl on the stem
Next job was to get it lower . . .
as an urban bike does not need to ride as high as an MTB
So I adjusted the spring/shocker
then got the grinder and drill out
So I could relocate the spring mounts to get it L_o_w_e_r
Then an urban bike does not need the KNobBLy tyres of an MTB
So sourced some red wall slick tyres off eBay on the cheap
These work really well visually with the standard red rims
Plus these slicks take about 40% less effort to peddle along on the smooth black tarmac stuff compared to KNobBLieS
Then with it lower I had to get the grinder out again
I needed to chop the bottom of the seat stem away so it didn't rub the wheel at full suspension travel
I also chopped the top of it off to get the seat L_o_w_e_r
using a red anodized alloy seat clamp I also got cheaply off eBay
Got it so low that if you lean on corners you can scrape the ground with the pedals
TraSHEd one of the original plastic pedals on a kerbstone
So swapped them out with some alloy pedals from my spare parts bin
Also distressed the frame with a kitchen scourer to FLaT MaTT BLaCK it a bit
Then added a GLoSS BLaCK cut vinyl of the name of another forum [UK based] that I'm on
Next I had some 4x4 mudflap material off our JeeP lying about
So this was a perfect excuse to make a MuCk CaTCHeR and get the vinyl cutter out again for another parody sticker
So the whole thing now looks like this
Not bad for a total cost of about £30 GBP
Ideas in the pipeline
Cranked seat post to get the seat further backwards
Different handlebars
LED lighting
Fake Tank; in the opening in the frame; with batteries for the lighting inside; maybe even an electric horn/hooter in that tank as well
AND seen an alternative spring/shock cheap on eBay, that is 20mm shorter, so I can get it even L_o_W_e_r
