One of todays finds...

I got a kick out of the decal that reads"not for stunt riding or motocross racing". This is the first bike I've bought with anodized parts on it.

what brand are the chain tread tires ?

Are those rims gold annodize or Rust?

I found that the tires are Carlisle Lightnings.I like them.I also found that the gold parts on the bike are not anodized . They are chrome plated with a colored coating that has flaked off in a few places.I remember a spray paint supplier offering a semi transparent paint for making chrome parts look like anodized aluminum.VHT I think.I might remove the coating as the chrome underneath looks good. 8)

Replying to my own post again...I brought the bike to work, as I often do, and rode it on my lunch break.It rides well. Not as well as my Dyno Glide Deluxe , but well. I also cleaned it up. This bike may well be a "keeper".I'm thinking I will remove the gold finish as it is scratched in a few places anyhow.I am going to watch for some fenders to fit it. Anybody got an extra pair , black I hope? 8)

These are cool bikes. I have a Del Ray with the 84 Olympics decal, and a later teal Monterey, plus my "Murrrat". The coolest thing had to be the repop Lightning tires on the early ones! I got a new one for Christmas when I was about 11. It was burgandy with red fenders, and it had a 2 speed kickback hub! ~Adam

Actually, 90% of my collection I bought when I lived in Va. Beach! I've bought a few bikes on ebay since, but have only found a few goodies locally-JC Higgins and Columbia Sterling middleweight down in Wingate, a BF Goodrich/Schwinn ladies' in Charlotte, and 8 bikes for $100 out in Rowan county somewhere! I do see someone listing antique bikes in the I Wanna somewhere in the 828 though. Haven't called-yet! Most of my free time is dominated by my 22 month old son! ~Adam

There's a new member here from Va. beach. Whenever I've been there, I always wished I had brought my bike. Not that there's any shortage of rentals.

i have a monterey, too, but mine is an 86 that i converted to an 18speed with a front and rear racks as my grocery getter. diggin the color schemes with yours and the anodized parts. where would any of us be without an anodized part or two in our colections? :lol:

i have the same one.... i successfully got all the gold off with my thumbnail, didnt screw up finish underneath either.

I have mine all pulled apart now , but stuck where I always am..... Colors. Anybody have one thats not black?

mine was that auqa green blue, but years of being outside made it this silver looking with blue highlights. i thought about painting it orange or yellow, but i like its patina too much to repaint it untill maybe summer.
