If you do go and buy a $60 headlight make sure to check the rectifier on the bike with a voltmeter. And not sure how strapped you are for money but a new battery, a new headlight bulb, and a brand new rectifier will make a huge difference on how the bike will run. Its like one big circuit and if there is a hiccup some where it will definitely cause issues. The Clymer will show you how to test pretty much everything on the bike.
Here is the link to the website I ordered my rectifier from. The only aftermarket rectifier I know of that I can personally recommend to work and fit the Twinstar. And definitely cheaper than buying NOS or wasting money on a used rectifier that won't be very reliable. If you do buy it, don't be surprised at how small it is compared to the stock one and think its the wrong one. Its about 1/4 of the size but it fixed all my electrical spikes.
