I have been following this Raleigh Chopper at a Retail outlet store for a Year and a half.

It started out almost 2 years ago for $399.00 Canadian.
I am not a huge fan of the Raleigh Choppers......
but I do think they are cool.
Anyway,It has finally come down to below cost..so I scooped it up
for $151.00 Canadian after taxes..which is about $125.00 American.

So, my thought is...let my boy ride the heck out of it...
and Re-Paint it up later if needed.

Pretty cool bike for CHEAP.

You'd be hard pressed to purchase the wheels and tires for that price..

I think I might drop the seat off to Firewalker and work with him to
do something Custom...
I have always wanted one of these in Lime Green..so maybe some Paint is in order...

I'll keep yaa posted as my son and I tweek it out,

peace,
Kev.

kev,
you sure you bought this for your son?

well October, upon further review of the Bike..
and a half an hour of Cat Walkin it..
I think it will be both of ours

The rear rack will hold a Deep Cycle Motor Cycle Battery and a small
Car stereo amp.
An extended height sissy bar will accomodate a few 4 inch Mids,
The Front tube area has a nice flat spot to mount my I-pod Nano
and I can fit some Altec Lansing mini tweeters in the Bar grip ends,
routing the wire through the bars and back to the amp / battery.

but other than that...yaa, I bought it for him

Kev.

WOw, sounds like you have the a stereo just waiting that bike. Your son will be the coolest kid rollin up to school blastin out the tunes.

It's a great platform for a Stereo bike cman.
I have been playing with mental configurations all night.

I think a Truck Sub Box ( like the small kind that is designed to squeeze
behind a Single cab truck seat, with the angled box )
will follow the Angle of The Rear sissy and sit nice on the rear rack.

I might put a 4 Channel Car Amp with a
built in Cross over in a
leather Bag type deal, or a Canvas Bag
( I'll see what Army Surplus has )
and strap it to The Sissy Bar.

Then I might try and get some of that weight to the Front.
Maybe another sack / saddle bag deal for a
Deep Cycle battery on The Top tube configuration so
the bike isn't so rear heavy.
I can mount a switch for the Remote Wire on the Amp.
I have already dug out some Speaker that I have
had for a while.
They are small surround speakers ( four of em )
and the 2 slide right on
the rear rack

Then maybe a Hose Clamp on top of Black Hockey tape,
on the drop of the Front Ape's and the other 2
speakers will be pointing right at me.

Putting it all in Sacks / Saddle bag style will make
it easy to take off.

I'l keep you all posted as I search Pon Shops for a
decent amp,
with a small dimension, and a Truck Sub..

I'm gettin excited :D

peace,
Kev.

Yeah dude, Ur sons lucky! Let him ride it 2 school, Coolest bike in the rack ha, Better than the old ones, Its got modern brakes and all. LOVE IT!!

that things screamin for a 2 stroke friction drive mounted on that rear rack, later on off course :D

Oh no!

Are you saying they are on sale at Canuck tire for $151.00 ish???

(I won't be able to go to C/T without walking out with a large brown box)

I also had my eye on one...BUT to fix the 'seat' problem would cost more than the bike LOL (repop or NOS $$$)...but you know a $22 Chaingang black banana would also fix it up OK for a $150 bike.

Off to the Canandian Tire web site...

WWHHOOO....hold up chief....I vote let the kid ride the heck out of it, let him build memories [and learn lessons] he won't tell you now [maybe 10 years from now] how cool he thought that new bike was and how the other kids envied him...or how he went to school early to get the front spot in the rack..because he knew his bike IS the COOLEST...my dad always tried to change things on my bike or FIX somthing..." Dad just let me ride!" iff you FIX IT he'll know its really not his bike, iff you do fix it let it be his idea  ......

Is is just my 2 cents do'nt mean to rant, I just had flashbacks

 :|

Hey Kev, didn't mean to come across sour, I ment to preview first then erase and I hit submit, I just typed first reaction

Cooooool...

Wheelie bars -----> http://www.rcoc.co.uk/

Check the two black bikes on the front page... 8)

P.S. face it...you need to buy a second one for yourself.

I'd cut that cable housing down a little bit so there isn't so much of it sticking out.
Also maybe change the chain-guard to some more like the original.

it's all good..I took no offence.

My son has a BEAUTIFUL Hare Freestyle BMX that I paid $350.00
for.We go to the track a lot.
This was just a second bike for him...maybe one we could leave as is..or customise together..
Either way, I will proceed with NOTHING until he gives me
his approval.

My son is a bit of a Science / Math kid.
He loves his Haro, and that's one of the ONLY sports he likes,
Cycling..he's not a Sports Goo-Roo like his younger sister.

So, as you know Outsider...with young kids, you have to
go with the flow and not presure them to be like you.

I am lucky he loves bikes..
I just want him to learn with me to pull wrenches..
It's my 7 year old Girl that wants to pull all the wrenches

Peace,
Kev.

Yeah...let him take a certain amount of ownership
of the project.
Ive said it before so sorry for redunancy,
but time spent with my Son working on bicycles, wheely contests
up the street real late on a friday night, arguing over whats
'cooler', etc, was some of the best time Ive ever spent on him
and me too. The Chopper seems like a blank canvas for
some quality time  Enjoy !
