Ok I'm not going to steal anybodys post so I will do my own.
I keep seeing post on what goes on with the Schwinn site. I don't go there because Its not something I'm interested in. If you go to the trouble to run/start a web site and for whatever reason you feel like there should be a rule that you have incorperated into it, Then thats the rule...period. Just like here...if tomorrow Steve dosen't want any road bikes discussed here (which is not going to happen) then there wont be any road bikes discussed here. Its pretty simple. Your site you make the rules. Now you can either play by the rules or get your post zapped.Whoever is moderating the site gets to use his or her best judgement as to whether the rules are being followed. Its like me ...I smoke...If a place tells me I cant smoke there I have two choices...leave or jump up and down and face the music. It wouldn't make much sense to go to another place that will let me smoke and hollar about the place that wouldnt. I feel like Ratrodbikes about has it all covered and If you have to have a Schwinn specific web site, there is the sister site Steve started and the other guy runs. I should Know the name ,but hey Yall know me and Schwinns. Just my meaningless opinion. :|

i have the same conversation with my better 1/2 on a daily basis.

she loves coffee. tim horton's coffee to be accurate.
she takes it with alot of cream and a tonne of sugar.
she always buys coffee, and always ....... about the fact, that it hasn't been stired.

in my mind, she has one of 2 choices. deal with the fact, she's gonna have to stir it, or stop buying it.
still on a daily basis, i get to hear her complain about the coffee she buys faithfully.

i don't drink the stuff. makes absolutely no sense to me why she keeps buying it.i don't wanna hear it. life's too short. :)

I agree 100%, the way I see it, it is a SCHWINN site so why would someone want to talk about other brands on it, the owner of the site wants to keep it "Specific" and not just a "any bike" site. It is kind of the same as talking about road bikes and fixies on a BMX site, It just doesn't belong.

Yep, if you don't like the rules, do your own or suck it up. Doesn't matter if their rules or reasons are good or bad. Don't move to a brown condo if you want a pink one.

I too agree. I don't frequent the sight. I did when I first got into the hobby. At that time, any bikes were welcome. Then, all of the sudden, without warning or reason, they started banning people . No explanations.(I personally was never banned.) That, my honorable friends, is unfair and a total crock. Yes, now they post a change in rules. Cool. No problem. I'm personally done there. What I don't understand is why they would try to remove anything not related to there forum name including archived posts. They are totally trying to erase anything but there brand. Yes, it's their sight to do with as they choose. I was a contributor of that brand of bike as well as Murray ,Huffy, and the other brands. Even some of the big un-named bike collectors actually had a few Murrays, Huffys, etc. The main problem started when the history of the highriser bike(ie,banana seat bike, muscle bike) came into focus. They were being proven wrong and took it out on a bunch of us. That only shows who they really are. It angers me because I had put the time and effort into helping anyone I could no matter what brand of bike they collected. I wasn't the greatest knowledge wise, but I contributed. I had to put up with snobs and know it alls and stand my ground when I knew for sure I was right. Now they want to erase me and my contributions. It just isn't right.
This sight is great. We are allowed freedom of speech here, within reason. We don't have to worry about being singled out unless we deserve it. Everyone, for the most part, is freindly and not afraid to say what they think. Isn't that the way it should be? This is America isn't it? Kenny.

I found this to be a problem in general across the board with bike related sites. Either sites are too specific to a brand or type of bike, or just not good for one reason or another. Thats exactly why I decided to start a site of my own. Its still in development but should launch fairly soon. You guys will like it...

Well look at it this way If the website closes down ....like alot of them have..for whatever reason....All the postings and pictures will be gone. They arn't archived for prosparity.

totally makes sense. i will not scream at an orange, asking why it isn't an apple cuz it is what it is. some people out there are just drama mongers i guess. thats why im glad to be here. :D

I've got 600 posts there and I haven't had any problems. I was a moderator on a Yahoo forum for 6 yrs. A forum is not a democracy, it's a dictatorship. Your forum, your rules. Period. When joining a forum, we always hope to have a benevolent dictator like Steve. The Schwinn forum's dictator is a corporate dictator and a little less than benevolent, I agree. As a Schwinn collector, the forum serves its purpose for me. Anyone can start their own forum, make up their own rules, and be their own dictator. Don't like the Schwinn forum? Start your own Schwinn forum. Gary

I see their point too. If I was a (ugh) Schwinn only Purist and I had a web site ...I might think ...Oh look those guys that want to talk about Huffy's are back posting. Its like going to the Mopar site and trying to post about how cool your 65 Mustang is.

You know, I've had the same kind of conversations with what seems like dozens of guys over the years about their job. The guy they work for is unfair, or doesn't know what he's doing, is a complete idiot, or is whatever expletive you'd have to delete in polite company. My response - long before I was a business owner myself - was, 'OK, so leave!' If you don't like what he does, find another job! There's no law that says you have to work there. Like someone else mentioned, websites, workplaces, etc. are dictatorships/autocracies, not democracies (within certain legal guidelines, of course)! The guy who starts a site or business has done so because he's interested in a certain business or topic, and feels he can do it better or in a different way than it's being done already from his own point of view. He runs it, so he gets to call the shots and set the rules. Period. That's not something that's up for debate or dissent! If you don't like the rules
-this being America and all - you don't have to work/play there, you are free to go elsewhere. What's the point of insulting/complaining/denigrating them? I don't get it...
Websites and businesses are tough, expensive things to run; how about a little credit now and then instead? If not credit, then at least just move on and keep silly (and often childish) negative remarks to one's self? :(
