depends on your definition, some would think "pre-war" would mean a bike from before WWII, it seems any bike that still had pre-war characteristics can be called "pre-war" too. Skiptooth drives and horizontal dropouts seem to be the 2 main factors in calling something "pre-war". Subject to your opinion of the definition but I would say most will say that's a pre-war bike. I have no idea when it was actually made though. Could be pre or post for all I know

Looks like a 24" wheeled bike.
Not a Shelby expert, but I'd say this is post WWII. Shelby and other companies used rear-facing dropouts after WWII.
1" pitch (skiptooth) was used lots post-war, too.
No guarantee that it's orig to the bike, but that New Departure hub is definitely 1950s.
Stem looks replaced, and chainring looks like a Wald replacement, too.

I can't tell you the year by looking at it.
What I can tell you is that if it appeals to you, and your willing to spend $40, buy it and figure out the rest later. I also know that you can't get that bike at Wal2WalMart for any price!

Good Luck!

I've been looking for prewar wheel reflectors and foam grips just like those for a while now too

No idea on the year/date info for a Shelby Randall ... sorry.

wanted this bike for a while now but seller is kinda tough to contact - dont think he spends alot of time on the internet , waiting for an address to drive down and get it this afternoon .......

+1

I could be wrong, but I have not yet seen evidence of that chainguard appearing prewar.

i could be wrong but it you look at the picture of the dropouts you get a pretty good shot of the chain and it does not look skip tooth to me. but hey its a $40 you cant go wrong for that price on a complete bike

now my questions
- paint is very "chalky" and comes off easily , recommend repaint ? or leave alone ?
- chain guard looks WAYYYY small
- Is there supposed to be something on front fender ? a light maybe ?
- why has regular chain ? this mean not prewar ? i have heard they made these into the 50's
- whats special about hub?
- is seat original ? shouldnt have safety pin looking spring on front ? know what material it is covered in ?
- why say stem not correct ? think may have been replaced?? what original look like please ?
- bars not correct either ? how about chain ring ?

looks like the wheels (may be the reason its not a skiptooth set-up), crank, seat and maybe bars have been swapped at some point in my opinion. I would repaint if it were me. The chainguard looks like a universal fit, may be correct for the bike but may be found on other bikes too.
