As already announced, I'll continue to build up the muscle bike for my son from the summer BO.
This is how far I got:

Parts that will get added in near future:

(Handlebar is already on, sissy comes from my first BO bike, the Barrel banana)

That's it so far, more to come...

Glad to see you jumping back on this one.

Two months passed since the last post and christmas is looming around the corner. With my shed approved by the authorities it is time to focus on this build again (I think my Skinny'matic has to wait until summer) as this one HAS to be done by the end of this BO as it also marks the birthday of my older son, for whom I'm building this bike...
So I headed to the basement this afternoon to spent a few hours wrenching and get stuff done. The goal was to get an overview of what needs to get done and what parts/screws/whatever is still missing and needs to get bought/organized.
Todays starting point was this:

First order of business was to get rid of the original saddle and put on the banana seat:

Sissy bar was next. Some of you might remember this one from my very first build off bike the BarrelBanana Lowrider. For those who don't know/remember: the sissiy bar started it's first live as a CD-Stand...

With some axle spanners I was able to mount it onto the rear axle.

To attach the seat to the sissy I used some clamps coming from kickback breakarms, bent to fit and a thin strip of rubber to give it some grip.

The pad of the backrest was attached temporarily. This will need some fixing (as does the seat) and a better way to attach it to the sissy bar. But for now it does the trick.

Next on todays todo list was the front rack with the double lights. The rack itself was no big deal, but to properly mount the lights, I had to bend the eyelets to the right spot and angle. I'm still not 100% sold on the positioning but for now it is ok. Maybe I need to get them a bit higher...

So this is how the little bike looks now:

From what it looks now timewise, this bike won't get any fresh paint and any kind of "derustification". I won't have time for that and as this will be a campground ride, it will not need it anyway...

Had to finish my christmas present for the boys first. So no time for bike wrenching this week...

Happy Holidays!
Last year I got my kid a big box of Lego (1000)the boys and I had a few beer and thought it would be fun to wrap everyone individually and but them under the tree. We thought it was awesome he's still unwrapping them.

Nice work, Dad. Is that this year's Lego advent calendar in the background? We got the Star wars version again this year, the kids love it

Sharp eye! Yes it is the Lego City one. As you can imagine from the look of the table, especially my younger one is much into the whole Lego City stuff...

Back to bike stuff....
On my last day of the christmas break I finally found time to spend in the basement with the little muscle bike...
First I swapped the stem for a longer one. It might be too long now. In the pictures further below it's already slammed down to the bottom of the forktube...

Then I swapped both brake cables and sleeves for new longer ones and ran into an new issue: The cable head in the breaklever is to small. I need to find a solution to somehow sleeve it. Maybe I have some leftover brass tubing or something similar somewhere.

I also realized that the distance inbetween the screws of the large rearlight fitted perfectly to the distances of the perforated metal strip from the DIY market.

Then I also swapped the plastic pedals to something nicer:

And this is how it looked before I stuffed it back into storage...

And tomorrow it's back to school/work again...

I have to give up on this bike again
Wrenching in the (sub) basement is just no fun. As already mentioned in Mattis thread, it seems that I need to build on the campground to finish my bikes in time. So that's where I will get this one done in time, without the BO pressure....

Bike and parts box are back on the campground, where they belong.
While I was working at the SwingBike I swapped the break levers and calipers for something nicer.
Next up on the list is the derailleur that needs some attention as it's not keeping the chain tension (some serious cleaning and a few drops of oil will probably do the job), the back rest pad and the electronics (the big taillight is gone, it's just to bulky).
I'll keep this thread running for those interested. Maybe a friendly mod can move it into "builds"...
This is how the bike got ridden yesterday:
