Hello,

New guy here....and new guy to bikes!

My name is Jess and I am in Albuquerque, NM

The last bike I owned was in 1979. I just recently got into bikes out of necessity.

I work in the film biz and I am currently working on a new TV series at the Albuquerque Studio's.....Usually my department gets a golf cart to get around in.....budget is tight....so no cart!

I got an idea to get me a bike and solve this issue! I went to a local bike shop and found a vintage Royce Union in decent shape and had them refurbish it!

I have no idea what year it is?

A few weeks ago.....one of the guys I work with tells me he has 2 old bikes in storage.....I look at them and take em off his hands cheap. I figure the wife and I can have bikes for home enjoyment.


The first one is for my wife. It is a 1939 Goodyear Wings Reliance. It just needs a chain and new tires and tubes.

The second one (Mine!) is a 1951 Montgomery Wards Hawthorne. I have wheels, chain and chain guard coming soon

I am finding this to be a new addiction......my other addiction is vintage VW's!

I never realized how cool bikes were!!! I am totally hooked.....been on Amazon all day ordering books!!!

Nice looking bus 'abqpropguy".. See thats what I want, just a simple buss to just load up your cruiser and drive some to take your cruiser and ride that too.. I'll even take a bay window buss for that matter..

That's the great this about living in a place like N.M. You can find good old stuff that not rotted out. When I lived in Albuquerque years ago, I used to be amazed at the quantity and quality of old, virtually rust free cars & trucks in peoples back yard, barn lots, etc.

I thought I would add a updated photo of my 51 Hawthorne....I am still trying to figure out how to attach the front wheel correctly.......so no riding it until I do that and put a chain on it.
