Hi all. Like most, I rode everywhere as a kid.
A few years ago, ipicked up an old Miyata road bike out of the trash and set it up as a fixed gear. It worked out okay for a while. Then I got a Redline 29er single so i would have two speeds to choose from.
Last year when my son was working on cycling merit badge, I realized that 25 bike path miles on the low gearing was too much. The next trip of 25 miles fixed was even worse!
I like the simplicity of those bikes, but I think they are both a little too narrowly focused for weekend rides with the kids.
Most often, the old ways are the best ways. Now I want to get a cruiser and just pedal around and enjoy the ride.
