new old guy

hey,i'm an old guy thats been lurking for awhile.
I have a few old bikes that i ride some,not a lot.
last week i bought a nice ladys bike,a schwinn with a skip tooth chain. number H11549,
can anybody tell me what year this bike is?

Looks like maybe late 1950 or early 51, but there should be six digits after the letter H ?

Welcome! How did I miss this thread? I enjoy dating old bikes, like some folks like doing puzzles or crosswords.

If that number came from the left dropout, by the back axle, it is probably made between Jan 12th and 14th, 1953. It looks like the serial number chart has a typo, it starts 1953 with H60001, when the numbers should start with H00001. Following the sucession of numbers, the H60001 would show up twice, and the numbers go backwards if it starts at 60000.

I'm 52, and rode a 40lb bike 25 miles Sunday. That'll make you feel old.
