I stopped by my LBS this morning for some parts and spotted this on the floor. Schwinn painted this bare frame with a clear paint that is supposed to patina up as it ages. Schwinn is going Rat! Maybe some of the powers that be are watching what is happening here. I would really like to see this bike in about a year, right now it just shows the tech's fingerprints from the assembly process.

It must be the Chinese Year of the Rat. :p

I agree, good, but.........
Maybe if the wheels were black w/brick red tires, pedals, grips.... or even red lines!
A Brooks seat wouldn't hurt either.....

Check out the blue and red paint on the Super Deluxe, Schwinn had to be watching our Rat Rod Bike Build-Off (Richard Petty tribute bike).

A clearcoat that patinas? It seems like after it starts to patina, the handprints will be further along as well and will always stand out more. Maybe the assembler could invest in some latex gloves for about $3 a box.

Interesting that the website says nothing about this "special paint" they just call it "raw" maybe it is just raw... :?

It also looks like they are giving a nod to the past with a flatter fork.

Some $150 Wally World Schwinns now have color tires and rims and truss rods.

I still like my Schwinn SS Sport. It definitley looks like Schwinn has been watching.

Clearly Schwinn has been paying attention. Kudos!

My only complaint about the raw bike above, since they're listening, is the fenders. I LOVE fenders. Big, long, wide fenders, and, stubby customized, bobbed fenders. The fenders on the above mentioned bike look like 60's middle weight fenders. Too short, too narrow, too squared off at the ends, they look cheap.

Otherwise Schwinn, keep up the good work!

Personally speaking I like it, The fenders and pedals do look kinda cheezy though, But the aftermarket has lots of options, I'd slam the seat, throw on some new wheels with 24x3's in place of the 26"s, a 3 piece crank, old school looking butterfly pedals, FAT fenders, and some blacked out apes with fringe grips.

Oh and a Felt Abraham linkage springer fork

The "special clear coat" had a write up on one of the hang tags.

I have an old Emory that I ride at work. I blasted the Industrial Yellow off and left the frame bare. Everywhere I touched with my skin began rusting in a matter of weeks. Now after about a year and a half the rest of the frame caught up and everything blended together even though the bike has not seen the outdoors in fifteen years.
