new trek 6500 i picked up in a wierd color

just picked up a trek 6500 zx- original owner purchesed new in 1996 - but the color is a burgandy ( dark red) - i can find no reference to this color in trek catalogs in the 1990's - any help here ?? also trying to figure out the year it was made - my guess was 1995-1996 - original owner bought it in virginia beach . va area when stationed near there in a military hospital ( marine doctor) - but cant be sure when but sometime in 1996

That is a new one to me too,I have never seen that color.I did a quick search and can't find that color anywhere.

Trek would occasionally do color changes later in the model year.. A good example would be my 1999 Trek 820 in Dragonfly Green. This color was dropped in September of 1998 after the new 99' catalogs were already printed. It was replaced by black or inkwell blue if I remember correctly and the new color wasn't listed in any catalogs.
