We haven't got Walmart down here, but we do have Big W, I saw some interesting looking cruisers in there the other day for not much at all. I think we might pick one up for a mate's military style build.

I stumbled upon the cruisers in Big W too. From what I can tell, they're pretty similar to these Walmart bikes, the guards etc look the same, but there some minor differences. Im keeping an eye on them for when they're on sale

Well my girl was in Big W passing time till I got off work on Friday, and found one that had the crank arm replaced on it (as they had stuffed up the screwthread where the pedal screws in). Given the damaged part was completely replaced, it was basically brand new! She got the bike for $130 (regular price is $200 - remember this is Aussie $).

The funny thing was I was doing a half day at work so we could get a headstart on going away for the long weekend at lunchtime, so we already had 2 bikes and our gear for 4 days away in my car, and had to make room for another bike!

Ive got to say, Im pretty happy with the value for money of the bike we got. The seat isnt great (though it looks good), grips are average (Im fussy on grips), but for a dirtcheap ride its pretty cool.

funny thing, i went to walmart's bike page online and i was sad to see them discontinue the men's schwinn delmar cruiser and the next lajolla 26" mens and women's cruiser, leaving just a 24" girls. i guess kent is going to market their bikes under their own name. and also new cruisers from victory, polaris (as in the snowmobile mfg) and mantis (as in the trimmer cultivators for agr use?) the polaris kinda looked cool.

Walmarts bike page? I just do a search for rideable toys. Is this bike page something different? If so whats the link? Oh, I haven't bought the bike yet, but they still have it on the rack. I just haven't talked myself into getting it yet. Dean

The Polaris and victorys look good, I also like the black mantis beach hopper

Here's my Cranbrook, the first things I did to it when I got was put a springer fork, a laid back seat post, and ape hangers on it but was at the Art of the Bicycle show here in Wichita and decided to jump off a curb and folded the back wheel, so I decided to use my red 3 speed wheels on it and make a makeshift boardtracker

Well I went to Walmart tonight with money in hand, but I didn't buy the bike. I looked it over, and it's such a poorly built piece of crap, I passed. The welds look bad, lots of splatter, the paint is really bad, lots of places with no paint, cheap peddles, etc, just a whole bunch of stuff. Who ever puts these things together, shouldn't be putting them together. The peddles are loose, the forks are loose, the basic bike is an accident waiting to happen. I can tighten this stuff up, but shouldn't have to. What's going to happen when this bike gets bought by someone with no mechanical skills, and either rides it his self, or gives it to a kid, and something falls off, and they crash? I'll hang on to my money, and either buy a bike off someone on this forum, or find one at a swapmeet, or garage sale. I tried real hard to spend money tonight, but it just isn't going to happen. Dean

Hang on to your money and check the CL ads, an oldie might be advertised for sale there. I'm always checking at Goodwill stores and yard sales on saturdays.

If you have K-Mart or Target in your area, they carry "Chwinns", which are usually a little better than the Huffys, and 1 or 2 other brands.

actually i think the huffys are about the same quality wise compared to a box store chwinn (bike shop chwinns are better though) id just try to make sure whatever bike you get doesnt have a HISTOP coaster brake, Ive always had problems with the ones ive had and your looking at about $30 for a new rear wheel if it poops out on ya.

This would be a great build off theme.

Everyone has to start off with an $88 Huffy Cranbrook from Wal-Mart. :D

Would be crazy to see what people come up with.

I'd be in on that, I need another excuse for a build.

I'd prefer an older cruiser that needed paint and tires over a department store bike anyday, but if the price is right and you want something new go right ahead.

You might want to check your local Target store. My dad just picked up one of their Schwinn Jaguar 7-speed cruisers on clearance for $37.99 here in Colorado. That's right, $40 with tax out the door. He called my brother in Illinois and he went to his Target and got one for the same price. Cheap bike to flip or mess around with. Original price was $149.99. 8)

that would be a cool idea. i think that the cranbrook and chwinns are made by the same folks, cuz the ser#s on my cranbrook and schwinn point beach both start SNJ and have the same sequence of numbers and letters. in fact, add my wifes 07 roadmaster mt sport to that. at least pacific cycle makes it easy to decode the dates.

Finding old bikes is very well and good in a country where there are so many old bikes to be found. Down here there's not much more than old malvern stars and indy 500 roadbikes. Not much in the way of fat tires and cantilever frames.

That's not bad, and we hope it should be added soon our favorite list.
