i may be coming to NY from the UK and would like to the possibility of getting a 50's frame and springer forks, as they're near impossible to get here. Can anyone recommend a shop I can start talking to in NY that may be right for what I'm after?
Cheers.....

In Manhattan’s Lower East Side:

In Brooklyn’s Williamsburg Section:

Both shops are staffed with knowledgeable cycling enthusiasts’ that’ll give you the guidance necessary to lead you to what you want.

These two shops are just over the Williamsburg Bridge from each other.

FWIW: I was born raised and educated in Manhattan's East Village.

For a 50's frame, most shops won't have anything that old, and an antique shop will probably want way too much. If I had a few weeks to get some old frames and forks, I would go to Craigslist, check the bikes, then check antiques, type in "bikes" to see what all is in the area. Then if I found a frame or two, I would be careful with dealing with strangers, it would be a meet up in a public spot in the daytime.
Springers may be harder to find, but the aftermarket springers are available at many bike shops, like the one on the Worksman bike in the previous post.
I can't find 50's frames here for a decent price either. If I had some time back in the states, I would scour the Craigslists and try to get a half dozen old bikes cheap and ship them to my address here. That would keep me busy for awhile!

Thanks for the advise. NY City, probably staying Manhattan. I'll check out those shops before I come over. Slight change of plan, my other half has booked Oxford for the next Hol in October, so it'll be next year now......

if you're in the Long Island area, Local Cycle of Long beach is definitely worth a look! A full custom cruiser shop.
