I wasn't too happy with the OEM saddle. So figured that I'd make one that would allow me to fit any saddle I wanted to the bike....
First, I measured the stock seatpost...1 1/4" O.D... Then I called my pal SUE a Lape Steel and they had a piece in stock... so I cut it to length:
Then I cut a piece of 1/2" rigid conduit (7/8" O.D.) to serve as the "normal" seatpost:
At first, I was going to bolt the two different sized tubes together and weld around the 1/2" to make it permanent:
BUUUTTT...After I got to work (without my camera! :x ) I decided to weld the smaller tube to a washer, and then weld that assembly to the 1 1/4" tube. Then I ground the whole thing down and polished it on our bench sander. And this is how it worked out:
And on the bike:
New saddle:
Look! It even leaks oil like a REAL Harley!
