Last Saturday (video) the Brooks B72 I was riding on gave out on me. I twisted in the saddle and it ripped. I think it may have already had a small tear at the bottom edge.
It was an old saddle that I had taken off a Raleigh 3 speed I bought at a garage sale years ago. I really like the Brooks saddles so I ordered another B72 only this one in black to match the bike.

This is probably in the "dumb question" catagory, but does anyone sell "replacement leather" for Brooks seats, would it even be possible to replace? Just asking. Thanks.

I read you can send them back to the factory but I can't imagine it would be cost effective. That old saddle will make a nice wall hanger. Do you use Proofhide on your Brooks?

Prior to buying my first new Brooks I didn't have any Proofide so I was using a Doc Martin leather treatment on the old Brooks saddles I aquired. I have since bought tins of Proofide and have some that came with new saddles I bought. Prior to me getting the saddle (that ripped) it had probably never had any treatment.

The last pic of the new saddle I had just applied it.

Anyone that works with leather could whip up a new seat for you. I don't know anyone that specializes but I have talked to Danny at misfit leather about doing some custom work.

I've done work w/ leather, usually holsters for Old West guys, but I don't think it would be very difficult to replicate. All you would need is the original seat to trace off the pattern and then wet mold it. And of course copper rivets and a setter but those aren't real expensive. The leather is probably $20-30 at Tandy depending on the weight used. Could make for an interesting project b/c you could tool or stamp it w/ whatever you wanted and it would be totally unique. 8)

Any thoughts about using Kiwi Mink Oil on the leather?
I don't have a Brooks but it seems to have done a good job on an old Wrights saddle I have.
I used to use it on my Noconas and they were like kid gloves after a few rubs.

Available in the shoe polish section at your local supermarket.

Speaking of tooling leather... I picked up a Tandy leather tooling kit a while back, it has all the shaped punches and instructions on how to do it. Might let it go since it was kind of a impulse buy, not like I needed it

Every one has their own opinion, but I have read to stay away from animal oils. I started using Obenauf's Leather Preservative. It is very similar to Proohide.
