Finally got some shop time.
I tried hand sanding for a little while, but ditched that for the wire wheel. Much quicker results.

Found a serial #. LRB0005624. No idea it means anything.

Needs a little finish work. Next I'll cut down the fork.

Still waiting on spokes to build my wheels. They are literally on a slow boat from somewhere.

Today was the day to swap hub shells on my Sachs 515 hub.
First order of business was to watch this dude disassemble/assemble a hub:

Then got to work. You really need a vise to work on this hub. Working from the brake arm side.

This Perry hub tool came in handy.

At this point, I should have been able to lift the shell off, but I had to take it apart a bit further.

Now I needed to swap the bearing race from the 36 hole shell to the 28 hole shell.

Very cool hub!!! 🤤 🤤

Ketchin'up post. KOTA bends look good. Chain stays at relatively level adds clearance too. Could bend a bit more for some rake but big guys on little bikes need the height and clearance is always good. Even street bikes go off-road once in a while. Not gold and not green, I like it already.

I'll have to get my wheels built and on the bike to get the stance dialed in. I have a few tire options to help with that as well.
I suppose since my seat is blue/white, the paint will be something of that nature.

I always keep my eyes peeled for the Torpedo hubs.

Full disclosure: I had been waiting for a spoke order to get my wheels built. The order came yesterday so I sat down to get some wheels built today. I very quickly realized that I had screwed up my order and my spokes were not going to work for a cross 3 pattern.
SUNP0004.JPG

Looks like I can get away with a cross 2 in front since I'm not running any kind of brake.
SUNP0009.JPG

That pattern isn't going to work for the rear so I decided to just clean up and paint the old spokes from the exerciser that I broke down for the rims. Cleaned up with 0000 steel wool, then degreased with mineral spirits.

Got some gloss black Rustoleum on the spokes.

Ready to cut my fork down. Set up some old headset parts for a guide.

Voila

Had to cobble some headset parts to get everything to play nice.

Great idea. 👏👏👏
Cleaned up my crank. This side looks better. 44T. The original sprocket/bash guard didn't make the cut.

Another mockup with a new shiny seat post and a chain guard from a big box store kids bike.

That look similar to how I’m going to paint mine. Pink and black
