...the fun factor gets lost! I've seen this in model contests. It was all fun in the beginning and then it got ugly. I don't participate anymore for those reasons and only show up at "no contest" shows. A build off pushes everybodies limits and that's what's important..oh yeah and having lots of fun too.
Hey Kev, thanks for sticking up for me and others but I had way more fun building the "BLACK RAT" than any award or votes could give me. I agree about a longer voting period cause not all of us are internet junkies.
Besides I never have to go looking for a bottle opener again while working on bikes. Maybe an award for best/cheesiest accessory.
well Kev I must say I agree with you , some really cool bikes did not get the recognition they deserved but I think for the first build off for this forrum it was a good learning experiance ! I had a blast following along with all the builds and now I have a cool, purpose built bike to ride around the 'hood The coolest rat was voted on for that day and the poll shows what this online community thinks is cool, not necesarily what is the nicest bike...it wasn't about that !!! As for my bike...Thanks for all the great comments but even I don't think it was the "Coolest" rat in the contest, it was just one of several really cool bikes...all the builders should be proud of what they built wheather they got a vote or not, alot of people would just throw away the stuff we put on our bikes and call it cool...we are a rare breed
I agree with everything your sayin, and besides, i dont think you guys should be upset some people didnt get votes, i think thank after some of you ( RBR/Clothespin'n & Oct.) started runnin away with the lead that people may have voted on which one they like outta you guys since it started to get obvious which bikes were gonna get the most votes. Kind of like "OK one of THESE 2 or 3 are gonna win, which one of these do I want to win" type thing.
The most simple way to do this is to have catagories. I suggest the following, though there are probably some other good ones.
Overall (the bikes that did well in this build off would win in this catagory )
Most inovative (neat details like the LEDs in the sissy bar, using moped forks etc...)
Best Paint (I'm a little iffy on this one in a rat rod forum)
Best transformation (you took pile of crap and built something cool even if it wasn't best in show)
