have any of you ever welded a chrome moly frame?
I have an idea for a project but dont know if i can weld a chromoly frame to a regular frame
I would think it shouldnt be an issue but.......... I dunno

my concern was if it was special like stainless.I talked to a local welder and I am going to have him weld this one. I am building a clunker using the back half of a Specialized MTB and the front from an early frame.
i could weld it myself but I would use a fluxcore 110 wire welder and my buddy will Tig weld it for cheap

I myself am a TIG welder, and I use chromoly all the time. The best thing to do is have your buddy weld it using regular mild steel rod. This way you won't have to normalize the welds when you're done. Chromoly is strong and light, but it is very brittle. As it cools, the welds need to be heated to control the rate of cooling when using chromoly rod. When using mild steel rod, this isn't the case. I use this method to weld airplane engine mounts and hotrod chassis.

stainless and fluxcore

you can weld stainless with fluxcore if you have to...only problem is the weld will rust if not painted.. The frame on the ride I am currently building is a combo of .. main frame stainless and added on bits regular steel and I am using a regular 110v fluxcore welder..
