Thanks! Thats what I needed to know. I'll be welding that in tomorrow. I've been wanting an Elgin for awhile because of those beautiful frames! Now I have one on a budget!!
Finsished! well..... are they ever finished? I ground my welds and I had a can of John Deere green paint so.... Dont let the rust fool ya. I tore it down and cleaned and greased everything. Wheels werent orig, so some sandblasting was in order. I wanted a 40s look, and painted wheels and blackwalls seemed to accomplish this. Verdicts out on the skirtguards. Right now without seems to suit me. Rides great! So now I'm cruisin my neighborhood with my $35 Elgin!
That's perfect. I don't know why you doubted it.
I like the skirts on there personally... a lot of people mod them to put them on, but yours were already there. Cool, original parts to keep on your deco bike, I think.
I found a really nice old bike like yours, perfect for me but one thing....it's a girls bike. I was wondering if doing this type of surgery is frowned upon or would look good, but yours looks great! I think I might have to go back and buy it!!
Thanks for the comments! I put the guards on and I've been cruisin my neighborhood. I like it!! Hey... can anyone tell me how to date it? Been looking at old post s here and ebay, and I believe I scored a prewar.. yay !!!!!
