My opinion-
On one hand it's only $20 bux which is as cheap of a bike you will find. On the other hand, after getting the parts you need to get it ridding and looking decent you will probably be $60 invested in a $40 bike.

Really? If you had that frameset, built-up complete with a hodge-podge of parts-bin bits, you'd let it go for $40?

Realistically I took another look at the photos . The Rollfast is missing more parts than I thought. It really is a Frame & fork with Columbia fenders? Its still a good deal . Heck you can put any parts on it for a rat rod. Its just a matter of finding the right donor bike cheep or free. You could always flip the bike if it doesn't work out.

Yes, really. I sell many, many bikes a year on CL, forums, swaps and to a bevy of repeat buyers that I deal to. Where Im from (and FZ as well) a spray bombed hodge podge middle weight would maybe bring $40. I believe that is proven by the fact that both bikes linked to above have been on CL for some time with no takers. Ive seen nice, clean, complete 60s boys middleweights in the $80-$125 range sit on the local CL for days with no takers. That is the reality where I live but I do understand that prices may be different in your neck of the woods.

I also do agree that $20 bux is a minor investment, heck I paid that much for lunch today! I always remember what a seasoned vet told me when I first got into old bikes- Don't buy every cheap bike you see because in the end all you will have is a bunch of cheap bikes and no money in your pocket when a truly good deal comes along.

My advice to you fz and please don't take offense is just be an individual and get what you want. I'm sure you didn't need help deciding on what clothes to put on today. At the end of the day a bike is a bike who cares about resell value if you plan on keeping it for yourself.

Well, the straight bar I like and might have kept but not at 80,. and the other one is great, and all..but that would have been the one to resell and it seems like a good solid frame but a ways out of my way for a 20$ pop. I always try to rule in what I like before I consider what its worth to someone after I get a hold of it., but sometimes I see a frame, like that twin bar and it looks old but with the frame itself., I dont know by looking at it Bare yet.

I do appreciate your input and completely understand where you're coming from., If I could get that straight bar for 60 as it sits, Id probably be on it, but.. I personally have seen cooler bikes TO ME for around 30-40.

No problemo amigo. Truthfully if I was you I'd save your money up and get that columbia tanksalot has for sale. I can only speak from a west coast perspective where everything is marked up 100% more then Kats on your side of the country pay but I think that's a good buy with plenty of options to build on and optimal resell value. But like I said get what you want, opinions are always good but at the end of the day it's your opinion that matters most.

Well thanks again, all the same., Im actually a little surprised this thread took off as well as it did over a couple CL's.
I was feelin a little bit of a rough patch with Tanksalot there for a while, but when he chimed in I felt better about the matter and Im glad were all back on the same page [or pages as it were..I can be a little arrogant at times, no shame admitting it.]

I'll have to get over and have a look at his stash again, see what hes got, beings hes local., [and I DO like me some Columbia..]

That frame, at $20, wouldn't have lasted 2 days. Phila/SJersey is full of flippers, so it's more accurate to say that it would've showed up a few weeks later with some parts and a more dear asking price...

Philly and the main line/ Camden Co NJ are also full of riders, so a lot of folks are just out to get a bike, too.

I will say, however, that the framesets/frame only deals do sit longer than the completes, which is awesome for me b/c I like to start with a bare frame in most cases.

In vegas there's frames that sit there for months. Currently on the Las Vegas cl there's 4 vintage bikes of merit with 2 of mine being the oldest and nicer looking ones. I'd say in the last year alone outa the 10-12 bikes I've bought 3 of them were local one of which I bought then sold then bought back. I put a 46 challenger frame fork fenders etc etc everything but the wheels and chainring for $200 and never even got a call lol. I'm with yA 808 I
Ike getting the frames and working em back up but I wish to the bike gods just once a vintage bike showed up for $20-100. It's sad when I get better deals on here including shipping on the price then I can find in my own home town lol. Even more depressing I know with 95% certainty I've got some of the oldest original paint bikes in Las Vegas so unless I sell to myself I can't find nuttin but the typical repainted mid 60s schwinns lol

Thats the one! I talked to him on the phone., was pretty avid about making the point he could sell just the tires for 30., I got the impression he liked to hear himself discuss his collection. I called to ask a few questions about it and after about four words, he did all the talking and hung up.. I wasnt sure if I had said something wrong or.., in any case, I wont let it deter me. I've been wondering where y'all sell these bikes you cook up.
Craigslist sets the price for you , depending on where you live, eh?

I'm learning more about making what I want, and also experimenting with different bikes I fix up and service and try to sell on Clist to see what people want.

Currently I have about 4 bikes up there.
Do the real deal builders here think that everyone who peruses CL knows all about parts and ratios, years, date codes and if the wheels are perfectly trued or not. Most I sell to are just , you know. regular people who want a bike. For their kid, for them, whatever

I have my old Schwinn 57 Spitfire up there for 175 bucks.....nothin'.
But, I may have crapped it up because I painted the frame, and didn't really add any decals...yet It rides great and looks nice, I see rotted hulks around the same year on Ebay goin for 'hundreds' more.

I also cleaned and turned a roadmaster 18 sp Mtn. Bike into a single speed...mint green...looks great, )I know...I know...it's a Roadmaster)...but it's honestly one of the smoothest riding bikes I have..don't ask me why? anyway...listed for 40 bucks.....3 calls, 2 no shows..and one gal came over today and wanted it with all of the fancy 'gears'.....OY.

My biggest question is..on some of the really high end builds I've seen on this site....where do you sell them? Some of you have like a grand or more into them,...and countless hours.....and man, they look it too. Surely you don't pop them up on Craigslist...

Just wondering....sorry for the long post...I watch this guy on Youtube who is a bike flipper, he finds bikes at yard sales and such, and states...OH, this one will go for 300 bucks easy....on CL...that's his magic price for every bike...oh..$300, ...no sweat.
