It's called "Plan 9 From Outer Space" as a tribute bike to the worst movie ever made. It is about my 9th plan for this build off so what the hay. Originally I wanted to build a hybrid klunker using this stuff.
Frame parts to weld up into a custom frame.
Rear drum brake, grips, freewheel, chain ring, friction thumb shifters, Araya rims, old alloy cranks, pedals etc.
Ultra lite Tange Cromo fork and cobbled together from here and there bits MAFAC cantilever brakes.
Now I have to have my shoulder operated on Jan. 11 so the new plan is to replace my winter mountain bike with a new one. My old one from last year got rusted shutt. It is the red one at the bottom of this junk pile.
I made a commitment to do a ORBO build so it will have to be a few days build using all this stuff to make a winter bike with studded tires. I can't make anything elaborate with one arm and I want to use it before the surgery.
If I am up to it I will work on the hybrid during the Jan build off but I don't know how particle it is to measure rims and hubs and then build the wheel? If I could get all the parts polished and built I might have time to weld up a frame at the last minute if it is OK by April? Anyway, the winter mtb will most likely be my only effort.
I quit for the night. I need to find a seat post and a better rear wheel. I'll have to put the electronic micrometer in the frame to see if I can locate a post, its very large. I have a lot of wheels but I don't want to have to rebuild one. I have a straight one but it is a quick release and I bend that stuff in no time. I'll look tomorrow in my junk for a rear wheel with a solid axle. I plan to run a 24 tooth single chain wheel in the front with a derailleur to help hold the chain on. I have a 5 speed and a 6 speed rear freewheel, both with 32 tooth large sprockets. I can't gear any lower unless I buy something. This set up should be OK as I don't do any real heavy duty single track for the chain to bounce off. The snow makes it smoother.
