Snatched this up from the swap meet today. Seller said 1940 Schwinn Packard, but I'm not convinced about the Schwinn part, or the year, although it's probably close. Initial thought is CWC/Roadmaster early 40's. Badge just says "Packard", nothing else.

Yeah, several manufacturers had a Packard badge and that's definitely not a Schwinn Packard badge just chucked on there. CWC indeed and I think G serials are generally associated with 1940. Nice find!

Seat is obviously later, chain guard looks like an add-on, but I've seen a few others with similar? Also curious abou the stem and bars, bars look to have same patina as the rest of the bike, stem looks newer? Anybody know if its correct?

Stem is a generic 60s replacement, bars could be correct, pedals are 60s replacements, chainguard is universal as well from the 50s or 60s. Grease it up and bomb around! Similar condition as a 1940 ladies I just picked up recently... notice the very similar replacement chainguard.

Maybe a replacement...or maybe the first chainguard it ever had. Many of the cheaper prewar bikes didn't even come with guards. Gary
