I've seen lots of posts of people painting their rims. Mostly fixies and cruisers. I am modding a raleigh twenty and want to put alloy rims. Most likely I will buy a thrift store bike and steal the rims off that. Most of the time they are girls bikes and have either white or pink rims. Can I paint the rims and still use my rim brakes or will that rub the paint off? I guess the easy answer is wait to find some unpainted rims.
I never do things the easy way. I'm just that impatient.

rim brakes will remove paint and even anodizing over time. How quickly just depends on what you painted/coated the rims with and how grippy the pads are.

the paint will clog up the brake pads.
I use the 90 degree grinder and a sanding disc and take the paint off the sidewall of the rim. A very fine flap wheel sanding disc.
