Got a late 40's early 50's Hiawatha tank bike that is really pretty rusty. Not only rusty but pitted. Doesn't seem worth the effort to smooth all those pits out and do some type of restoration and repaint. I've considered cleaning it up and clear coating it, but would like bring out more of the paint that remains on the tank and fenders.
Is there a way to apply paint to these parts in such a way as to replicate and enhance the old faded and pitted finish? If I can match the spoiled colors (red and white with some black trim) I would maybe drag some steel wool dipped in paint over the parts to hit just the high spots.
Would that work? Any other ideas for this kind of finish?
