This is my first cruiser, I found it at a thrift shop for $45. Right when I got it, I knew I was going to have to modify it. And through google I found this site. I spent a couple of months lurking and reading. Just wanted to thank anyone who's posted in the 'how to' section. I did all the work myself.
This is how I bought it. I took off the chain guard, bell and mirror that it came with.
Stripped the paint. I didn't have the proper tools to fully disassemble.
Cleaned the white walls.
Sprayed with rust solution. It didn't take so well.
Sanded all the way to bare shiny metal.
After a few days of spraying with hydrogen peroxide.
First dry fit.
Close up of the rust after 2 coats of matte clear and light sand.
Painted the wheels with rusto satin red, then matte clear.
Sealed and ready to roll.
I was eventually able to take everything apart to clean and re-grease. I flipped the handlebars cause I like the lower profile it gives. I've had 2 people say it looks odd. I already have plans to add bobbed fenders, lights, and maybe a custom head badge.
I'm definitely hooked now. I'm getting an Electra Rat Rod in a few days, and can't wait to take that apart.
Anyway, let me know what you think. Thanks.
