Me to. Rust IS a color. :D

Many colors actually that all work so wonderfully together.

If you're gonna put anything over rust...I like propane and steel wool. I was really happy the way Rats-Alt's frame came out. ( a few blisters never hurt anyone) :D

Here's a comment I got from Gowjobs I'd like to share:

This is one of the bikes in the buildoff that I would love to own and RIDE. In fact, it's inspiring the direction of my next project right now.

That meant more to me than all the votes I got. 8)

I'm glad. You built a great bike, and I found it inspiring.

A nice process. Very nice indeed.

10th place race between Rats Alt and Mash Banger. Kota, I thinks it's funny that we are close to the same age if not both born in 56, older than dirt. I really admire you style and now I know why.

I knew I should have used my bent blade fork mod on Mashie, It might have put a vote or two more my way. I've already voted so no tie breakers from my camp, not that I would vote for my own build.

I do have criteria for my voting process. I ask two questions. Would I like ride and to be seen riding the bike? Would I like to own the bike and have it in my stable. Rats-Alt is a H yeah for both questions. Great job my rat loving friend. God bless and good luck.

KOTA: just want you to know that I think your build is awesome! I'd ride it proudly anyday (as long as my back would let me!) I'm also stealing some of your ideas for the nxt build off! Great job! 8) PS: I was born in '56 also! (old fart)

'56?! Whoo. I feel old born in '73. Thanks for making me feel better )

ChrisMac: Your still a young pup! You built a bad a$$ bike though!

  Well I was born in '53...Someone just dropped me a vote, thank you, to tie us (kuttenhack) up for tenth. Personally, I don't think my bike can hold a candle to either yours or pick's (might be an expression only us old guys know  ). I never expected the votes I received and have sat back and watched all week. Rats-Alt is the last bike on page 3 of the finished bikes, with 105 threads ahead of it. There were so, so many cool bikes this year, that I actually feel guilty placing so well... My "goal" in a build off is to have fun and laugh throughout my build thread...And that I did....Thanks to everyone who voted for my bike or commented in my build thread...You made an old man feel like a kid again. THANKS!

I guess one of my goals was to have fun and make people laugh all through my build thread, hope I achieved, or else I inhaled all those paint and chemical fumes for nothin'.

I found this quote from RatRod a while back and thought it was a good time to remind everyone what this site was about. I think he accomplished what he set out to do and maybe more. I like to see not only ratrods, but nice shiny bikes and everything in between.

RatRod wrote:
"My intentions when starting the site was to create a community of folks who enjoyed building and creating cool cruiser bikes with that hot rod look and feel. Middleweights and heavyweight bikes were what I had in mind as the basis for the projects that would be built. On the Schwinn forum many folks would refer to their bikes that were built from different pieces and parts as Rat Rods. Since it was a commonly recognized term I decided to go with that name and figured it would help the site's ratings in the search engines. Initially I wanted hotrodbikes.com, but a motorcycle company already owned that domain name. I also felt that Rat Rod was a good term becuase you instantly knew that the bikes on the site would not be nut and bolt resto jobs and it gave the place a little attitude.

Now over the past couple of years we have seen that the hobby isn't just limited to heavyweights and middleweight bikes. Some folks have managed to build cool rat rod bikes out of lightweight bikes and even out of cheap mountain bikes from Wal-Mart. I could be strict about it all and filter everything out that doesn't fit my definition, but who am I to stifle the movement. As long as you built it, looks cool and has that vintage style to it, we're good.

In regards to the build offs, they were started to increase traffic/activity on the site and give the members a semi-structured environment to build a cool bike. Personally I'd like to keep them very simple and not create a bunch of classes and rules. I think when stuff like this starts to get too complicated then the fun goes away quickly. I'd really like to eliminate the voting part of the build offs altogether. I think most folks would agree that the fun part is watching the build diaries and then seeing all of the finished bikes at the end. I guess the element of competition may drive some folks to push the envelope on their builds, but maybe there could be another incentive to voting like...your bike could end up in a calendar, poster or desktop wallpaper.

So my recommendation is, don't get too hung up on definitions and semantics. Just build cool bikes and have fun."
