There is already a Happy T-giving thread, but I wanted to highlight something specific and ask a favor. I'm lucky to be home this year as for the last two years previous I've been deployed during the holidays, so this turkey day and this upcoming Christmas will be extra special for me. Because of that I am always mindful of those servicemen and women who are standing the watch overseas so that we can enjoy this time with our families.

I ask that you all take a moment, and maybe a prayer, to honor what they have done for you today. Keep them in your minds during this holiday season, and let us all pray a more peaceful horizon so they can eventually come home to their loved ones.

And always be mindful of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in order to keep us safe.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

As a mere Cold War Veteran, I am in awe of our Service Men and Women serving today in Combat Roles and Support Roles. Our town lost a young Marine in the very first days of the Iraq Invasion and I have stopped to pay respects at his gravesite when I go to visit my own fathers at the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery. My heart goes out to these young people, their leaders, and their families as well.

Thanks for all that have served. My Brother in Law just came home. Glad he's back and glad all of our formerly deployed- RRB'ers are too. 8)

Thank you for all you have done. Maybe one day world peace will be attainable, but till then we have great Americans who step forward and serve. Thank you for your service.

You're welcome, but I'm home and happy. Thank THEM for THEIR service today overseas, away from home.

Well said! I recently retired after 27 years of naval service and constantly redirect the thanks to those young service men and women who serve on the front lines. It's especially important during the holidays when it feels a little more lonesome than usual when they are separated from friends and family. Well said my brother!
