We just got back from spending a week in Port Aransas, Texas at our friend's beach house. It's a neat little town just north of Padre Island. We home school our kids so we get to take our trips in the off season when nobody is around. The temps were in the 80s during the day and in the 60s at night...perfect!!

Port Aransas is fairly small and you can get to just about anywhere you need to go in about 5 minutes. Golf carts are street legal there so we rented one and drove everywhere in it all week. The beaches are very clean and the water is nice and fairly clear. As with most beach towns, there are lots of cruiser bikes around and there's a very laid back atmosphere. Everyone we met was very nice and it was fun to be there when it was mostly locals around.

Neat bike shop that specializes in fat tire beach bikes. They rent and sell cruisers and I had a great time talking with the owner. He's friends with the owner of 3G Bikes and he let me ride a few of the bikes around...the 3G was nice!

Forgot to mention that this was our first vacation in 10 years.

Needless to say...it was waaaaaaaaay overdue.

Looks like a nice quiet place. Yeah after 10 years I'd say it's well deserved. Glad you got to go.
There's been talk in my household about cutting back on the number of vacations we take a year now that someone's not working. Almost scares me into getting a job :D

I was stationed in Ingleside not far from Port A for almost 6 years. Port A was the destination of choice for our family. Drive right up to the water basically and pitch a tent. I played on a dart team sponsored by a piano bar somewhere in Port A... at least they thought it was a piano bar... :D

I signed that little form before we drove off that said I would have to pay $1200 if I tipped the cart.

I put 6" of lift on my father-in-law's EZGO cart and some 22" knobby tires... I'm surprised I've never tipped it, those things are really stable. $1200... wow, he could replace the whole thing whether he needed to or not after a roll.

You can get them cheap and build them yourself. The in-law's cart was used from a... (wait for it)... golf course.

I'm thinking of what the guys down there on the island that rent them pay for them.

These places have 50-75 of these things on each lot to rent out. They are all 2011-12 models too.

During peak summer months they charge $140/day to rent them out.

We rented the one we had for $65/day because there was nobody around.
