Looks like a prewar hawthorne zep frame to me but not sure

Looks like a Colson "rainbow frame" to me. Zep frames were built by Snyder, and had far different geometry. The white Murray-built Mercury badged bike has similar ends (technically not drop-outs) in that they have the dropstand boss, but if you look closely, they're different from the Colson ends. I'd like to remind everyone that Hwthorne was a badge used on Montgomery-Wards bicycles; it was a brand of bicycle, but the frames came from a number of different builders.

Here's a pic of a similar frame (not mine) that I found here on RRB.

Yeah i know about hawthorne being only a badge. Mine is snyder built.

I still think you should scrape or wire brush the area where the serial is and then touch it up with some gloss black.
So, what are your plans for it?
