Have to have the protection underneath. All powder coating I do is through a top of the line shop that does parts for the automotive undustry. We use a zinc phosphate
Aha. That should do the trick.
The frame in the picture is only a couple of years old, not something you want to happen to your restored bike.
Sorry for the sort of negative reply.
Northern MI. Hey C.S. sorry you had a bad go round with powder, we don,t do it out of our garage, I have been doing it for over 15 years and would be embarrased to give someone garbage like that!
It wasn't mine, I mostly have old or very old bikes. The bike was coated this way when sold new.
Bike sales went up over here the last couple of years, now you know why.
How good or bad of condition does a frame have to be in before you tackle it? You beadblast it first, right? Can you do 2 colors with darts on the frame? If you can't do 2 colors, is it possible to paint on top of powder coating...and have it stick? What would the cost be to do a frame that's completely stripped, but old and rusty? Thanks, Gary
Fortunately condition does not matter. I also have access to a "pickle line" acid dip for removing rust. I can strip a frame. I have done 2 colors on a frame and even a flame job (not perfect) grapic are not easy with powder, but anything can be done with it after it is done. i.e. graphics, clear etc. For cost pm me anytime. I
You cant do water based decals like that of a Schwinn. The powder coating is waaaaaay to smooth for them to adhere to. You have to clear coat them once on and in my opinion... that defeats the beauty of Powder coating! I have a contact in MA should you need 2 colors. Although I have not used him but have heard and seen great things he has done
