Pre War Elgin? what do i have?

Saw this on my local CL and figured i better shake a leg and get it. The forks look like repops or something but every thing else looks old, what kind and year bike is it? Guy i got it from said he thinks its a 1936 Schwinn, neck has a cool art deco look, truss rods have pitting but look polished. Anyone recognize what the chain ring is from? thanks for any info and pics.

serial number is SD then under that 24175.

I think those forks are correct.

Frame could be an Elgin. Forks are definitely NOT Elgin. The stem was used on deluxe Hawthorne bikes and the sprocket is from a Monark.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up-I saw Beatcads bike and just figured maybe it was the right forks.Ohdeebee knows his stuff so whatever he says is gold with me.

Thanks Xcruiser! The fork on the Beatcad bike is an early Cleveland Welding, the fork on the Fresh Find is a later Cleveland Welding (I think).

Thanks for the info, any idea on the date of the frame and and the date of the fork? any other pics or info would help.

tossed some parts on it to see what it would look like, 28" front rim fits, 26" rear with a 2.125 tire.

I don't really know much about old bikes, but when i saw that gooseneck i knew it wasn't a "regular old gooseneck" LOL..

got a seat for it!!!! going to toss it together quick for a rider this summer. Then maybe come up with a plan over winter..
