Is it just me or are the prices for these repop pre war grips on Ebay a bit inflated?

I know Memory Lane has them for $24 plus shipping, but I hate that they don't have a way to buy items on their site using PayPal.

Just looking for a nice black set of Coke bottle style for my Westfield.

I was thinking the same thing. I wait for the Saline Mich. bike swap and stock-up. I think they sell them for around $20 a pair. A old couple from Ohio makes them but, they don't do internet sales. Probably where Memory lane gets them. They make every style and color imaginable as well as decals and such. I have a card somewhere! If I can find it I will scan it and post it on the site.

That would be some great info to have.

Sounds like the guys on Ebay must be getting them from them too.

$50 - $90 for some repop plastic grips is just silly.

not just you....
when i was looking for a tank for my b6 a few years back i tried maple island and a guy that has an ebay store bought them out and sold them with a $40 mark up(but hey thats capitalism for ya :| besides if they hadnt been sold out i wouldntve found memory lane)....

That must have been what happened with the cross brace handlebars that Maple Island was selling for $35.

They are all out of stock and someone is selling the same bars on Ebay for $65 a pair.

thats exactly what happened....
when i called he said that such and such bought all his stock but..heres his ebay stores name

Gonna make a reply to this thread about certain ebay sellers who are contacting other ebay sellers who sell either MINT NOS in box stuff or repop stuff. I won't name any names except to say that have lots of items listed. Theya re looking to buy items for dirt cheap and then reselling them for twice as much, but they are hagglin with you about $2 for shipping. I know times are tougher than before, but trying to make a living by selling this stuff is a very ambitious venture. There might be a few who can pull it off, but cripes don't try to negotiate shipping over $2 and then list a boxed item you buy for twice what you paid for it.

I can say with ALL certainty that patience is reward enough. Unless you of the "got to have it right away" situation, wait. The prices on this stuff will come down or more of these items will appear at a fair price.

Networking in this hobby usually pays huge dividends.

Sorry for my rant - but found this an appropriate place to let it out. BTW this above happened twice as a result of stuff i just posted on ebay.

When they ran all the Kenda 26x3 tires on for $7 a piece that one guy bought them all and raised the price back to $29 . I would have done it too but he beat me to it. Probably would have had a bunch of tires at my house.

Maple Island had the wide style crossbrace bars about 6 months ago, but not the straight back. When I was looking for some new ones around then, I lost three auctions for the repops at $75+ each. I finally bought a set of old ones for $90. When you take a look at them, they are just touring bars with a notch cut in either side and a tabbed bar running across them. I can't believe someone isn't making more.

You're right. Wait until this recession gets a little worse. They'll be paying you to take them. 8) Gary

Another one is the black torpedo grips. Somebody had 'em at $19/pr, and somebody else had 'em for $9/pr! And for the lucky non-dealers that get a peek at the J&B Importers catalog will see that they wholesale for like three bucks! I did splurge once, $25 for a RED pair, but that guy is pretty much the last person who has 'em! ...Let's not forget NOS Morrow brake arms, they're all over the place! It definitely pays to wait for the right price on certain things!! ..I HAD to have repop Westwind whitewalls for my '56 Corvette, (1st old bike, 1st rat, had since 1980!) and they're pretty pricey. But I eventually got a pair for $59.95 "on sale" from bicyclebones. I figgered that was about as cheap as I was gonna find them. ~Adam
