Disguised as a Huffy Diamondback. Great patina. Been cleaning the chain before I take it apart. Planning to keep the petina and drop some 26x2.35 creams between the crusty rims. What year do you think it is?

Wondering what application would require a hole through the top bar. The hole is lined up directly with your line of sight while seated on the bike. Has a hairline Crack in the rear rail to contend with as well. Thanks for the ID help. Paid $45.- for it. Its worth messing with.

Clearly not the original badge. Frame is unsafe for klunking duty. Or speed bumps even. The top tube hole remains a mystery. Perhaps flaws was a poor choice of word on my part.

I, too, think it can be saved. Check carefully for any hidden weak spots from rust inside the frame, though. I see what you mean about the badge, but the frame DOES look like a Huffy to me. Other parts are a mish-mash. Sweetheart ring looks Schwinn..guard, mid-60's Hawthorne?
 
I, three, think it can be saved. You will have to weld, grind and possibly even add a sleeve but it can be saved as long as you are ok with the above. I have saved worse. I agree with you-would not klunk on though. Good luck!
 
Looks like 1950's Huffy Mainliner, Customliner or lastly, El Dorado.
The two top bars come together for a streamlined tank.
There were Western Flyer, Bluegrass and other equivalents.
The safety/fits-sooner frame was superseded by the new Huffy Twin Arch (read cantilever) ~1957, with con-current or overlap in sales (parts clean-up). I believe these were middleweights, 26 x 1.75" - Left drop-out serno.

Not sure about the bike, but comment about the hole in the top tube got my attention. I have a 56 Panther with the same hole, and am interested in any reasonable explanation. Didn't mean to hijack thread. Thanks David

No Hi jack, even more intrigued. So what do you think the reason might be. Side car, newspaper bag, some sort of rack?

Sidecar? That's a prospect I hadn't considered, but sounds plausible. Difficult to believe that a mounting hole, rather than a beefy clamp, would have been used, however.
