I cleaned up the Caliente last night, once the light coat of grease and dust was removed the bike is all shiny and presentable. other than a couple of minor scratches on the top tube and fork its super clean. Chrome is flawless all around. Pretty sure its original right down to the tires and brake pads. Judging by the condition of the axle nuts and other hardware i bet it has never had any adjustments or flat tires. I shelved the Steart Warner speedo (450 miles on it) but the bike is headed to my LBS for consignment. Tires aren't even dry rotted and hold 80 psi. Any idea where i should price this rig. I haven't run the serial # yet but i'm guessing right around 1976 as there are three bike license stickers stacked up (top on is 79). I know the varsitys seem to command pretty good $ but most of the Calente's I've seen have drop bars....I've never seen a freewheeling bottom bracket before,

this is before it got its bath..

Personally I'd start at $125.00 or best offer, but no less than $80.00 it's a nice bike, although not highly sought after.

Couple of local shops here do consignment, they take a 20% cut typically but I'm hoping to work out a lower commission in return for store credit. That's a better deal for him at the least. Even though I could e-bay it or Craigs list it, if I consign it then I don't have to deal with it...and its out of my way for the next unfinished project.

I've been getting $85.00 consistently on these on Craigslist, put some road style bars on it and it will probably sell faster. I have tried listing some at $100. but the phone does not ring as much

I have sold a number of bikes on consignment at my LBS. He typically charges 20% if I want the money or he will give me store credit for the full ammount the bike sells for.

Looks like we've got the New England contingent covered here! Cheers from the people's republic of Maine!
