My take on bike stands is to buy a Park or other brand name stand. It will work well and not cause you frustration every time you use it, and it will still be worth something if you decide to change hobbies and sell it. Usually I am the kind to go to great lengths to build my own - what ever it is, even if it costs more.

I don't regret waiting until I could find a sale price on a Park stand.....It is so cool to be able to swing the bike to whatever position I want ...and it makes life so much easier.

I had this stand on my watch list:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/310720317791?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT but on the advice of guys here and elsewhere I went for a Park at twice the price.

I don't think the three leg base is going to be too stable compared to the way the PCS-10 works....but I haven't seen one in person. I think I'd rather keep looking for a used Park than buy a new Pro Bike.

I think at one time or another I have tried every stand made! 3 leggers stink, cost me a handle bar wrap....
So I bought a PRS-13 by Park. It is portable. The base makes a nice tool box dolly.

I am going to tell you what I wish someone had told me.

Legged stands are like a cruider with a 27" kickstand!

If you can trap the back legs, -under a work bench, that stand will be great. Except the clamp!
Thinking of that bench, park makes a bench bolt on arm.

You have to decide how much you will use this tool, buy accordingly. I use my park daily.

You guys all know 2 bungees and a place to hook on the ceiling are all you need? Right???

My bikes would pull my ceiling down..

If I had a basement with solid floor joists above me that would be the method I'd use.

The ability to spin the bike to just the right position to work on it is really useful, too. Especially when you are old and decrepit like I am.

My Park is the one that mounts on a bench. It works well, but you have to turn the bike around to get to the other side. Sometimes, I wish I had spent a little more to get the one on the stand. I can't move mine around or out of the garage either. Other than that, I like it a lot.

Love my Park stand, I was lucky and got mine cheap from a roadie from work who gets all his bike work done from the shop that sponsors him.

Some of my bikes are really heavy never had any problems.
And on nice days I can pull it out of the basement.

Honestly my Park stand has been my best investment when it comes to bike stuff and would still be even if I had paid full price.
