Those are some wicked ice skates you got there!

Your custom drop-outs remind me of the 'ice luge' I made for my sons' holiday party this past December. A 20" x 4" x 4" chunk of ice with a winding path chiseled in the top, and holiday 'spirits' were poured from the top to the waiting recipient at the bottom end.

The sleigh blades are shelf brackets.

The mortar tray was first used for the ice block form. Went to a larger tupperware container for final form.

They have an industrial I beam look to them. Nice.

Perfect, that's what I was shooting for!


Here's a quick mockup after cutting off the original drop outs. There's still more forming and fitting to do before they're ready to weld in place.

The sleds are plumb and square with the frame now. It took some time and quite a few clamps to get everything in place.

Once again, my cousin Charlie did his magic for me!

There's a few more details to do to them later but for now I'm done with the drop outs. I'm pleased with the outcome.

I don't know much about welding, but those welds do look awesome! I drive a fork lift and I get mesmerized by skillful professionals. I would love to see your cousin Charlie doing a whole frame.

Thanks y'all. I've tried doing my own welding and... well... I'd rather have Charlie weld for me when he can.

Here's the latest mockup. Glad the dropouts are finally done so that I can move on. Much more work ahead!

Came late to this thread. Now I've read it and I'm up to speed, I'm stoked to see how how the latest TRM build progresses. I can see you put a lot of thought into those dropouts Jim. Ain't it grand when a pro welder like your cuz Charlie brings an idea to life?!

Dropouts are awesome! Any plans for gusseting the frame? The "cowl shake" is the only thing I don't care for on Interrobang (also why I've never owned a convertible car).

One more distracting thought!

When you work on the production dropouts it would be cool if they worked in vertical dropouts as well, thus acting as both an extention and a conversion. Would be super handy when doing single speed conversions.

As weld ons there's no reason they wouldn't work as is. If a guy wanted to put a threaded hole on the extensions to hang them on their own frame, it might be made reversible rather than welded on.
