I'm hoping I started this in the correct forum. First off my apologies to everyone. Sometimes I say things in ways that are not the best as I did in my last posts, so again I am sorry. Next I have a question about painting a bike I have.

I have a amf aero bee bike that I built up a few weeks ago. I am trying to pick out a color and am failing miserably. The bike is a 5 speed amf aero bee frame with a painted aero bee chainguard and painted amf fenders. I want to paint the bike all one color with painted fenders and painted chainguard to match the rest of the bike. the fenders will be re stripped as they were originally, most likely in black and the original chainguard stickers, fork darts and frame stickers will all be put back on the bike once I have it painted.

I just can't deceide on a color and need some help. I have some possibilities I've thought of. Plum crazy purple, green apple green, electric blue. All of those colors were original amf colors, just not neccesarily aero bee colors. I like the apple green and the plum crazy purple as my two best contenders so far.

The bike is currently a single speed coaster brake until a correct shifter can be found for either a 3 or 5 speed.

if you have any thoughts I would appreciate it.

Here are some pictures of the bike.

If you've got your heart set on refinishing it, I vote for purple. Not enough purple bikes out there. I don't even have one, although I wanna have a mauve one someday soon. Like, RAL4005.... Google that up, if you're bored.

But yeah, i think a plum crazy paintjob on that Aerobee would do you fine... it'd "clash" in just the right way with the yellow decals...:113:

I have no issues leaving the bike like it is. I just thought that if I did people would just see it as junk and that I didn't care about it.

I never considered putting the yellow aero bee stickers back on the chainguard and the fork. I was going to have them look the same but in black instead of yellow. I am thinking on the yellow color of the stickers against the purple though now that you mention it. Candy green apple green with the black stripes on the fenders and black stickers was the other color I thought of. If I did leave the bike alone I would at least buy the fork dart stickers or have them made and buy the aero bee "bee" sticker for the chainguard

well IF i paint the bike, it seems everyone likes plum crazy purple. now the question is should I paint it, should I leave it, and if I paint it should the stickers be yellow in color as they appear on it now? or black in color? and should the stripes on the fenders be yellow, or black? whatever color the chainguard sticker is...I feel the fork dart stickers and fender stripes should also be the same color

feel free to comment on your ideas or thoughts now that we have a color

I worry when I ride it what people will think. I want the view of vintage bikes to be positive not negative. I plan on riding this bike and want the hobby to be thought of decently, especially by people who aren't real knowledgeable when I am riding the bike so they don't think old bikes are just junk. As for the color and why I care, I want the color when it does get painted to be something people both really like and looks good so the bike "speaks" to those not "in" the bike hobby but perhaps makes them consider being or getting into the hobby. To answer the question what color I would go with, all I have to say is that I don't usually go with colors others appreciate which is why I'm asking for others opinions. (and if I viewed the bike as junk, I never would have spent all the time building it)

I understand the drive to impress folks with your bike, but you cannot please everyone. For each person who sees your bike in purple and thinks it's rad, there'll be another person who thinks it's incredibly tacky. In the end, do what makes you happy, and you'll end up impressing the ppl with tastes similar to yours....

That being said, I think you oughta leave it as it sits, or go purple with yellow graphics.... If you can't decide, flip a coin. Neither one is a loser.

The safe answer is to repaint it in the original colors. I know the Wedge, which was similar to what you have, was a green with red fades on either end. I've also seen some examples in blue and also solid green. But if what was said holds true, there may be someone who doesn't like it. Such is life. As long as YOU like it, that's the point, really.

And.........I prefer candy apple green, right after original patina anyway!
