Quick release wheelset on an old roady?

Will quick release wheels fit on an 80's (or maybe 70's) road bike? I've seen a couple of alloy 27's that are calling to me. (My current ones are a smidge out of round and steel)
I like the idea of QR on at least the front since my Honda odessy isn't cheap bike rack friendly.

I just put a set of quick release 26" aluminum Weinman wheels off a GT Palomar mtn bike on an old Murray cruiser. Worked fine!

That's the brand I was looking at. They got them at Niagara cycle at a decent price.

Quick release axles have been available for 80 years, and common since the late 1960's. More 27" bikes have them than don't. :|
