Ok is it just me or are we getting a bunch of...I have a bla bla for sale....No picture....no intro....no price , and I just joined yesterday so send me some money. Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

I have to agree, the hairs on the back of my neck are starting to stand up :x

I have to disagree, How else do new people get into the hobby/sell unwanted goodies, They have something they want to sell, They do a search, and RatRodBikes shows up, They are not interested in building bikes, They just want to sell some items to people like us that can use them.
I recently responded to a For Sale ad from someone with 1 post, He happened to be a bike collector looking to sell some stuff, I ended up buying 4 Springers and got them in a few days. It is no different than buying on ebay from someone you don't know, Not everybody is a bad person.

The post restrictions are a pain, but it does let you get to know the person a bit. Otherwise I guess your just taking a chance. Maybe small things it wouldnt be too bad, but big ticket items.... buyer beware.

If its paypal only, then you will get people like me that cant buy and sell so they end up taking it all to the scrap yard after tripping over it for years. I agree that they should post an intro of course and have at least a 50 post count. I know you guys like paypal but some of us cant and wont set it up.I cant see spending money to spend money. I think that a feedback option would be nice andc maybe charge all the members that want to sell $10 - $20 per year for the rights to sell on this site. It will help weed the bad out and also help out the site owner. Not many thieves are going to pay to play.Thats just my opinion though.

Within the last 2 weeks I bought a part from a new member with less than 50 posts and almost all were under the for sale thread. The only reason I did it was he had paypal and I really wanted that tank. :lol: . I was happy with the fast shipping and packing. I think pics and paypal should be mandatory. Number of posts shouldnt matter. :wink:
I have noticed though since he sold all his parts I havent seen any more posts from him. :?

I vote...

Pics = mandatory
Price = mandatory
Location = mandatory
Paypal = optional... not everyone has it, or is willing to use it.
Intro = optional
Feedback = already a thread for that I believe

And once its decided, post it up as a sticky in the for sale forum, then mods can see fit to enforce the rules.

Oh... and its always a good idea that if you sell items, a 5% donation to the site would be welcome.

EXACTLY what I mean, A) he had items to get rid of, B) he helped bikers who needed what he had, C) He was not interested in chatting about bikes, He wanted to get rid of stuff, D) To me requiring pictures or prices in the original post is not neccessary, If you are seriously interested, email him and get some photos, I did and bought over twice the amount of stuff he originally advertised, E) LOCATION should be mandatory on Everybody posting.

I agree with KZ100. We all have the choice to do, or not to do, business with anyone. Some of the new people around here don't know "the rules". Doesn't mean they are any less reputable. Also, look at some of the mail order sites that guys have lost money too. They look legit and turn out to be bogus. I say "buyer beware". If you're not comfortable doing business with someone who has few or no posts, then don't. And just because someone has an "intro" doesn't mean anything. Anyone can set up a bogus email address and create an intro.

I personally try to abide by the "live and let live" mantra. I don't respond to any ad that asks for "best offer". Just my choice. Someone else may offer away. Don't have pics up? I ask for them. Don't have them, I move on. I'm not going to make everyone else cater to what I think an ad should have. They just don't get my business. As long as buyers are willing to take responsibility for who they do business with and not blame the forum, I don't see what the problem is.

And believe it or not, not all of us have a digital camera. Recent life developments have left me without one and I'm the last person on earth who you'd think wouldn't have one. Just like some people can't use PayPal, not everyone can always post pics. I personally wouldn't try to sell anything without a photo, but my situation is temporary. If Grandpa Joe has his childhood bike he wants to sell but no way of posting pics, are we going to tell him to take it somewhere else?

Hummm I guess my expectations were too high. If I see something for sale ,I'm use to a picture at least ,of what you want to sell. It would be helpful to know where I would have to pay shipping from. All of us have bought stuff from around the country ,and I have a general idea of what shipping on a frame or a complete bike is from different places. We all did intros ,and while it dosent protect any purchases its comforting to me anyway. The make an offer, to me is silly ...if you dont know how much you want for it ...how can you sell it. This isnt the Antique Roadshow. Nobody will tell you your whatever is super rare and may be the last one around. I guess it up to each of us ,how big of a chance we take with an unknown.

I think pictures and location should be a must no matter what you're doing on this site. I've always been an advocate for giving your location. Even if it's just the state.

I never really understood the "pictures upon request". Seems it would be easier to just post them once than having to keep sending them to individual inquiries.

Steve can you make the "location" field mandatory on the sign up page? If someone is really against giving their location than they can just something bogus.

That's something that would require a bit of programming to change I think. Unfortunately there is no setting that I can change to make it mandatory.

Same goes for a feedback option on the forum....more programming changes.

OK thanks. I know on some message board software it's just an option in the board settings as to what information/fields are required at time of sign up.

I'm with Uncle Stretch on this one. I can't imagine buying something sight-unseen, and I'd sure as heck never consider trying to sell something without (detailed!) pics to show what I was selling. And why would listing the price even be a question??? This isn't an auction site!
I fully understand that having a min. post count might possibly chase off some new users, but isn't that a small price to pay to help guarantee the integrity of dealings amongst the rest of us?
Just my 2 cents. :wink:

I think the reason some people want to e-mail pics instead of posting them is due space/bandwidth constraints on their website/server. Also, given the state of the economy, some people can't justify the expense of a digital camera, and must depend on someone else to take pictures.
