ive never tried it, but i know when you stick a couple 200lb plus riders on a schwinn twinn, you can FEEL the flex in the frame, and the front brake does a lot of the stopping on our tandem, i would be really hesitant to ride a tandem with a knee action springer, and would be even more hesitant to ride one without a front brake. just my experience though.
 
Now's the time to make girder fork with double heavy duty springs or a trailer leaf spring. You'll be famous. 8) I have a few tandems and yes there is flex, lotta stress. I was thinking of doing a springer fork on my Western Flyer Tandem. You got my attention.

One big question is whether you have a couple of 200-pounders or a couple of 130-pounders (or the equivalent) on the bike.
