Rattable 60's AMF

I love my 24" Monark but I've been looking for something a little bigger (more comfortable) and that I would be more willing to beat on (daily rider?). A local guy is selling off his collection due to illness and I was able to pick this one from the lot for $20. Got home late last night so I simply stashed it away in the garage.
First night in its new home with the Monark, 50yr old flat tires and all...

New tubes and tires today. I tried straightening the fork a bit, but its still pretty bad so I'll have to replace it ...springer maybe? I'm really not a fan of the stars sprocket, I'll have to dig up something else. Also want to see if I can find some ratty fenders to bob for it. At the moment I dont really have a vision, I'm just throwing together the stuff that looks good :shock: I'm open to suggestions...

I'm not big on saving crashed forks unless they're something special, or not damaged much. Too fond of my face. :mrgreen: While you're dealing with the fork, lose the crappy stem. :wink:

I've got the same frame except the forks are straight, and it is the most comfortable bike I've ever had. Your forks don't look too bad, but the place to look is right where the lower bearings ride, for a crack that won't show unless you remove the forks. Maybe a homemade set of trusses will work.

cool project bike! i gotta agree with wildcat, i have a 59/60 amf roadmaster (full on oe fenders, rear carrier, etc) and it is the most comfortable bike i own. its all in the wheelbase and geometry. sweet find!

The tires are Specialized Crossroads 26x1.95 with "Armadillo technology". I was going to get some 2.125" white walls but they were a little too close to the frame and I wanted something a little tougher with more aggressive tread so I can do some of the trails around here. The red side walls are big style points too! :lol:

The forks really dont look bad but they stick off to the side so its akward to ride, I was able to straighten them a smidge, but they will be going into the trash as soon as I get my hands on something better. Dont get me started on custom forks... you guys are gonna make me spend too much money!

definitely that guy had a bunch of schwinn ladies bikes, I honestly tried to keep my distance so I wouldnt spend all my money on them! There is a sweet 1960 with really cool fenders that I was extremely tempted by. They have ridges down the center that look like fins, too bad they were on narrow tires.
