If its old yellowed and brittle,smash/crack it apart.
If its still plyable,use a soldering iron to carefully melt it apart without disassembling the rim.
Kustom Kreator once told me of a 'funny term' for that plastic procector...he cant remember,but he saw it on here.Anybody know what it was?
