I'm trying to "make pretty" an old Troxel springer seat off a 24" boys bike. I have the guts all apart and soaked in vinegar to remove the rust which actually worked suprisingly well. Hit it with some steel wool and it's now ready to have some paint put back on. My question is.... I plan on using a primer and rustoleum on the non moving metal parts, but what can I do with the coil springs? I don't want to paint them and have them not work or have the paint flake off. Better to leave them unpainted or is there a special paint to do this with?

I'm in the process of restoring this long saddle.

Like you, I soaked everything in vinegar (amazing stuff), removed as much remaining rust as possible, sprayed a coat of Rustoleum Rust Reformer for the stuff i may have missed, then automotive primer and Rustoleum Appliance Epoxy. That stuff is super glossy and tough as nails.

No 'build' thread yet, but coming soon.

Cheers,
Dr. T
