Similar to this one, which is 'spose to be a '55. I've never seen that springer before...but that isn't saying much as I'm pretty much a newb to the vintage bike scene

I understand , you seem to have an idea .....heck I had no clue . I only have one real old bike that's my Elgin And finding out more and more how cool these things are compared to all my other bikes. I like the common quote around here, that it is worth as much as your willing to pay for it...mostly because that covers up my ignorance of actual values. I recently went on a search for a tank bike (mens) project for my daughter and her budget was ~$250 for a fairly complete bike (must have tank). So, what I can share from that, is finding a pre-war or early post-war for that price in about the same shape of the one your looking at isn't impossible, but isn't easy. The caveats to that are we had to pay shipping, but, I think Rollfasts are generally cheaper.
If that were local to me, I would have a hard time going over 200, especially since I'm starting to think that unique springer is two different springers cobbed together into one...and almost every part gives the impression its off a different bike. But...like I said...total newb

Yes , I'm waiting on google to chime in ! LOL ! Well here the skinny on the bike , a "kid" has it listed on a local web site for 450$ I told his uncle he was way out of the park IMHO but I would like to come look at it and snap a few pics , get some numbers and I will get back to ya kinda thing . The uncle explained the kid was wanting a four wheeler ...... blablablabla . I told him the way it sits 100-150 $ tops but I would have to consult with my fellow RRB brothers . I figure at that price I'm not so upside down on it . I have a problem buying and not selling !I look forward to someone posting on this thread that actually knows 'stuff'...its how I get educated

Snyder bikes (Rollfast) reverse the number of the year, my Hawthorne is 24 EH, making it a 42 model. I'm not sure if all the Rollfast bikes were numbered that way. Yours, following that numbering, would be a 52. The rear dropouts give it away as Snyder from the 50's. The fork has the springs from a Murray springer mounted to the trussrod bracket, looks like a real springer until you notice there's no brackets at the axle. The forks are probably not original as Rollfast bikes I've seen don't have that bracket for the truss rods, the rods go from the handlebar stem straight down to the axles. The chain guard is a JC Higgins. Here's a 52 Rollfast Deluxe.
For value, it's not original, has parts from other brands of bikes, and the replacement forks are bent back, look how close the front fender is to the downtube. Show him how the springer isn't real, no movement in the forks. I'd check the trueness of the wheels and point out any wobble in the bearings. Still a good bike though.

Thanks Wildcat , I appreciated the schooling . I will definetly show him what it should look like . The uncle don't know what it is or to look for and all I know is I didn't want to over pay . My ignorance to these older bikes is pretty high that's why I lean on the bicycle professors to show me the way !Here's what that springer should look like.
Hahaa!!! Yea Jason , I believe this is one place I don't mind getting educated . I would have never known to look for the things wildcat pointed out . I enjoy getting on here and learning about the old bicycles . Think with all the Heinz 57 cross breeding on it I will offer them less than what I had in mind .
A straight-ish no rust through tank by itself is probably ~$100...and I would pay at least $60 for any old American 3-bar frame...bare. Old bikes are rare around here...so, I may over value such finds.
The true issue here is whether or not you'll be able to get the kid to give you a 2/3rds discount

I will be going back by there tomorrow . I think they are using the kid to milk it a bit , but either way they will most likely not move on it so that puts me behind the 8 ball and will stick to my "willing to pay" price . Hard to be sure from the pictures, but very wrong fork and front wheel kind of reinforces my thought that the frame itself may be whacked, the steering head should be parallel with the seat tube. Check for cracking at the joints and fit of the tank at the front. Those are good frames if it's OK, but not worth what they're asking. 200 would be top dollar if it had the 3-plate fork (unbent) that it came with, IMO. Like I said, hard to tell from the pic.

As if the others haven't given you enough fuel, I'd point out that the reflectorized pedals and thick hokey saddle are not period, either. Too bad the kid has dollar signs in his eyes, because that bike has real potential in the right hands. But...potential does not equal extant value.
I wonder if this Rollfast is still available, because it looks a tad better than the one you found ...
