It is with deep sadness that I let this community know that Ian Thompson has been diagnosed with a prion disease called: Creutzfeldt-Jakob (KROITS-felt YAH-kobe) disease, also known as CJD. CJD is a rare fatal neurodegenerative disorder caused by the accumulation of misfolded proteins in the brain. Symptoms typically develop gradually and progress rapidly, leading to severe disability and death within a few months to years. The brain degradation is very fast. I was with him last week and he is very weak and cannot read or reply to text messages or emails. He cannot articulate his thoughts very well either. It's best to not reach out as this will simply add stress to his wife and she is already struggling to care for him without having to read and replay to his communications. If you have something you would like to share with Ian i can do that for you. Especially if you have some photos of him from any or our RRB gatherings that we had over the years. Please post those photos below if you have them.
The children’s Godfather has started a GoFundMe to help fund their college education. If you feel so inclined, it would be really kind of you to donate. Thank you

You may know Ian well as he is/was an avid member of this forum. He is the owner of Thompson Grips. He designed and had molds machined to make those great grips we all love. Ian is an avid bicyclist, runner, hiker, snow shoer, etc. His love of the outdoors is contagious and he has many friends from all of those activities. Ian has been my brother from another mother since we met at work 25 years ago. He is the kindest man and most wonderful father and husband to his wife and children. I am going to miss him dearly.
It's been years since I've posted here. I hope that this post is allowed and that I managed to add the photos to the thread properly.
