Rust Protection

I keep my bikes in a storage unit , the last year I have been really busy with work and school and have not been able to ride much. Today I went to fill up some tire that were low and I noticed that a lot of the chrome had some light surface rust.

What do you all use to remove surface rust that is not really abrasive? After removal what do you use to protect the chrome from getting rusted again?

4-o steel wool and Nevr-Dull. Turtle wax after a wipe down/wash helps.
