A dumb mistake I made was not giving my welder an axle spacer to hold the fork blades in place. Because of that the heat from welding the fender mount warped one of the legs in.

So I put my spreader on it.

Good to go.
Amazing well thought out and executed. And people think we just bolt stuff together.

Long overdue for an update…

In 5th gear the chain was hitting the head of the sissy mounting bolt, so I switched to pan head. It still didn’t clear.

So we tacked the bolt to the special mounting washer the ‘72 Barracuda needs.

And shaved it down to give a flat surface on the inside so the chain can clear.

I thought I took a picture, but apparently not. I used two spacers behind the front sprocket to get the chajn to clear the fat rear tire. But this was causing too much kink in the chain. So I had my fab shop mill me a spacer slightly thinner than the two spacers, then slightly thinner than that. I’ll test them after I get the caliper mounts situated.

You may remember where I left off with the mounts on the previous page. So…

We tacked them on and built up the weld to cover some gaps because the mounts don’t sit very well on the frame.

I ground and smoothed those down.

I think it came out well. It’s a little hard to see in the photo, but I blended them smooth into the frame so they look like they’re supposed to be there.

Next I’ll reassemble to make sure it all works like it should.
