People are used to me using my bikes to show off the beauty of Savannah. Well today is a little different. I went on a ride on my 1960s Moulton to show some of the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew. We did not get hit with the eye of this Cat 2 hurricane, but it sure did leave it's mark downtown.

Glad to kno you and yours are ok.. blessingS to those who got the brunt of it.

Lots of trees barely missing the buildings. I was wondering if the shops down in the old area were flooded out with a storm surge.

Thanks for your update. My father's house in S.S.I. suffered similar wind damage and loss of power, but the minimum storm surge was a blessing. We were relatively "lucky". Glad to see you up on 2, keep rolling.

Sad to see those old trees down, but it's good it's not people, like poor Haiti.

Sorry to see this news and how most of the press focuses on USA only.

We survived pretty well. I think about 3/4 of the people have power restored now. I think only one death (from a tree).
It could have been a lot worse.

It'll never cease to amaze me, how in just a few hours mother nature can make you feel like you live on post apocalyptic earth.

Holy wah! What a mess. Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan looked like that when the Edmund Fitzgerald went down. Of course the Soo had only 14,000 people so it really can't be compared. I woke up after the storm and had to navigate around many old very huge up rooted trees and broken glass from commercial buildings (windows were flying through the air like playing cards) to get to work. I could lean into the wind when I got off work the day before and touch the ground with bent elbows at my side, just like ski jumping. I have only experienced that kind of wind two other times up here but they were short lived and not a 24 hour blow like when the Fitzgerald went down. We had a 14 foot storm surge as we were at the most extreme downwind part of Lake Superior. Overall we had far less damage as the town is so small. I can't imagine your magnitude, even based on my experience. We were cleaned up the next day. I hope you get back on track soon.

Edmond Fitzgerald! You are clearly dating yourself. Interesting historical account. Thanks!
